MCC Update October 2026

Good progress is being made on the construction of the Mayfield Community and Health Centre and we remain on track to complete at the end of May 2027.

Whilst most of the work undertaken has been underground, some up to 5 metres below the health centre and bottom car park, retaining and support walls are visible from outside the perimeter site fence now that we have just about reached ground level.

This work has allowed underfloor drainage to be installed, whilst the drain across Court Meadow field has been completed and initial grass seeding over it has been done.  This will be reviewed in October to assess if further seeding is required.

The attenuation tank, which has been installed under the health centre car park, is designed to take all the rainfall from the buildings and car park area based on a 1 in 100-year, 6 hour deluge and discharge at a steady maximum rate of 1 litre per second into the drain at the bottom of Court Meadow.  This is much better than the current situation where everything flows straight onto Court Meadow.  However, it will obviously have no effect on the rain actually falling on the meadow itself.

Above ground, the new footpath at the main entrance, past the Scout Hall and to Court Meadow has been completed providing a real improvement along with kerbs surrounding all car parks which give an idea of overall size and layout.

You may have noticed a rather large 50 ton crane on site in recent weeks, which has been used to hoist precast foundations into place.  This is soon to be replaced by a larger 130 ton one which will hoist the precast health centre floor joists into place.

The above ground build, the core of which is a modular, preformed structure from a company called Streif UK Ltd., arrives on site at the beginning of November. This will be fully assembled over just six weeks.  Following this, the outer stone/brickwork will be done.

In addition, regular meetings are taking place with the Mayfield Community Centre CIO, who will take over the running of the centre once complete, thus ensuring there is as seamless a transition as possible.
