The building work for the new Mayfield Community and Health Centre is now fully underway with Sunninghill Construction well established on site.

Security barriers have been erected but pedestrian access has been maintained to Court Meadow, the schools, and the band hut.

The demolition of the Memorial Hall is now scheduled for mid-June as preparatory groundworks are taking place, following which the main groundworks activity will commence. Prior to this ground work on the south end of the site has commenced so as to provide a tarmac area where the contractor’s main site offices and storage buildings will be placed; this will avoid having to move these buildings again during the construction period.

For the next few months, the site work will involve moving soil so as to establish the desired ground levels, followed by establishing the building sub-structure (footings etc). Additional ancillary work will involve drainage and surface water attenuation tanking. Some kerbs have already been installed.

Work on the superstructure is expected to commence in October 2026 and take about 6 weeks. This is the stage when a lot happens over a short period of time and the design of the building becomes apparent. Thereafter the internal fit out takes place with a lot of unseen internal work. In parallel the car parking areas will be formed – designed to accommodate up to 80 cars.

Completion is currently scheduled for end April 2027. 

The construction works have inevitably resulted in the full closure of the Court Meadow car park. A temporary arrangement has been agreed with the Fire Authority whereby parents can drop off and pick up their children from the fire station and this seems to be working well. Other users of the car park are parking elsewhere, or are avoiding travelling by car, or car sharing. As a result, whilst there is some an inevitable upheaval, it would appear that the village is coping. We continue to be appreciative of the tolerance of the local residents to the upheaval during the construction period.
