MCC Update July 2026
On Monday 8 June 2026 demolition of the old Memorial Hall began marking a significant stage in the project to build the new and combined Mayfield Community Hall and Health Centre.
We are therefore now well into the construction phase and Sunninghill Construction are firmly established on site with security barriers erected around the perimeter of the site and pedestrian access made to Court Meadow, the schools, Scout & Guide Hall and band hut.
Preparatory ground works are also well underway, especially at the south end of the site to provide a tarmac area where the contractor’s main site offices and storage buildings will be positioned. This will avoid having to move these buildings later on in the construction period.
Following the demolition of the old hall, work over the next few months will involve moving soil to create the desired ground levels along with establishing the buildings sub-structure, footings, etc. Additional ancillary work also taking place will involve drainage and attenuation tanking together with the creation of car parking spaces designed for 80 cars.
Work on the superstructure is expected to commence in November 2026 and take about six weeks. This is a period where a lot will happen in a short amount of time and the design of the building soon becomes apparent. Thereafter, the internal fit out takes place with much unseen internal work. Completion is currently scheduled for the end of May 2027.
These construction works have inevitably resulted in the closure of Court Meadow car park. Temporary arrangements such as an agreement with the Fire Authority, whereby parents can drop off and pick up their children from the fire station, while other car park users are parking elsewhere or avoiding travelling by car or car sharing, seem to be working well and we continue to appreciate the tolerance of local residents to the unavoidable upheaval during the construction period.
The Mayfield Community Centre CIO has now been formed to operate the community centre post completion and discussions with the CIO have begun that include the draft lease, detailed maintenance arrangements and service charges.
