Update from SGN Friday 10 April 2026 – Bicycle Arms Road/A267 Argos Hill
We’re pleased to confirm that our engineering work requiring the closure of Bicycle Arms Road at its junction with the A267 has been completed two weeks ahead of schedule. Our teams are now restoring the road surface, and we expect to remove the road closure on Saturday evening, 11 April. Bus services should return to normal from Sunday 12 April, but passengers are advised to check with their providers to confirm this.
The final phase of engineering to decommission 1,400 metres of old metal gas main along the A267 is also now complete. Temporary traffic lights remain in place to keep everyone safe while we finish reinstatement, but we anticipate removing our plant, equipment, and the lights towards the middle of next week.
We’re extremely grateful to Rotherfield and Mayfield and Five Ashes Parish Councils, East Sussex County Council, and the wider community for their fantastic support in helping us share updates on this urgent gas main replacement project. We’d also like to thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while we carried out this essential work.
