Update – Friday 27 March

Our work on the final section of new pipework along the A267 has continued this week, but we’ve unfortunately encountered some engineering challenges which have affected our progress.

As we moved onto the last section of pipework, our team found that we needed to dig back across the full width of the road again to safely reach and connect the existing gas main.

Also, reinstatement is taking longer than expected due to the recent colder weather. As this is a major A‑route, the road surface has to be rebuilt to a very high standard to ensure it stays strong and safe for all traffic. Until the concrete has fully set, we can’t lay the final tarmac.

This means we won’t be able to reopen the A267 on Tuesday 31 March as we had hoped. However, we are still on track to be able to reopen the road ahead of our original scheduled date of Friday 10 April.

Residents living within the works area will now need to exit northwards towards Yew Tree Lane rather than south towards Bicycle Arms Road while this section remains closed. To help keep local access as smooth as possible, we will not be closing the B2101 (Bicycle Arms Road) until the A267 has reopened.

We’re reviewing the situation regularly and working to confirm a revised reopening date as soon as possible. We expect to share a further update early next week once we have clearer information from our engineering and reinstatement teams.

We understand how important this route is to residents, businesses, and road users, and we’re sorry for the continued disruption. We’ll continue to work closely with East Sussex County Council and key stakeholders as we complete this final stage of our project.
